Florida Standards and Technology

One of the Florida Standards that incorporates technology is the Computer Science standard related to digital literacy, specifically focusing on students’ ability to use technology effectively and responsibly. This standard emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a digital environment, encouraging students to create, communicate, and collaborate using technology. In my current role, I feel somewhat prepared to implement this standard because I have a foundational understanding of various digital tools and their applications in education. However, I recognize the need for ongoing professional development to deepen my knowledge and enhance my ability to teach these skills effectively.

CPALMS Educator Toolkit Resource

While exploring the CPALMS Educator Toolkit, I found a lesson plan that aligns with the Computer Science standard about coding and programming for fifth graders. This lesson incorporates hands-on activities using a block-based coding platform, allowing students to engage in problem-solving and creative thinking. I believe this resource can be highly effective in my teaching as it not only covers essential coding skills but also promotes collaboration among students as they work in teams. Utilizing such resources can make learning more interactive and enjoyable, thereby enhancing students' understanding of technology in a practical context.

Importance of Internet Searching Skills

Proficient Internet searching is crucial for teachers because it enables them to find reliable resources, stay updated on educational trends, and provide relevant information to their students. This week, I learned various search strategies, including using advanced search operators and evaluating sources for credibility. Moving forward, I plan to utilize these skills to enhance my lesson planning and ensure that the content I share with students is accurate and relevant. Additionally, I often use the skill of leveraging specialized databases or educational websites, which wasn't covered this week, but I find it invaluable for obtaining high-quality, subject-specific resources.

Artificial Intelligence in Education

My initial thoughts on using AI in a K-12 setting are quite optimistic, as AI has the potential to personalize learning experiences and assist teachers in managing administrative tasks. For example, AI tools can analyze student performance data to provide tailored recommendations for both students and educators. However, I also recognize the importance of ensuring that AI is used ethically and responsibly, considering issues such as data privacy and bias. As we integrate AI into the classroom, it will be essential to strike a balance between leveraging technology for enhanced learning and maintaining a human-centered approach to education.

  1. Hello Ms. Future, I really enjoyed reading you opinions on AI and the importance of internet searching. All of our middle school, high school, and college eras have been online. Using internet searching is a very important part in doing anything school related. Students are able to gain a bigger understanding of a topic and look at examples.
